Grow With Me

Tahija Cambridge
Grow With Me, 2018
Acrylic on Masonite Board
“This piece is about Black Love. My works are about Black representation, and I feel as though in film and the media Black stories are always paired with struggle and pain. That makes it seem that there is only struggle and pain in the Black community. In my works, I just want to show the joys and beauty of the Black community and experience.” - Tahija Cambridge
Tahija Cambridge started her artistic career in high school by making art pieces about Black experience and the importance Black representation. Growing up as a Black girl in a predominantly white town, she experienced the lack of representation of Black people, particularly positive representation. In high school she decided: “if I cannot find Black representation in art, film, the media, and in the world around me that I would create my own.”
