Incorporating accessibility into our content design processes is essential for creating an inclusive and accessible University of Pittsburgh. Here are several principles of accessibility you can apply as you create documents, presentations, websites, or any other digital content.
These accessibility principles come from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG, current version 2.2) which are the standards referenced by Title II of the ADA and the Pitt EIT Accessibility Policy.
You may find it helpful to reference this WCAG checklist as you learn how to apply accessibility across the content you design. You may even want to print it out and keep this checklist near your workstation so that you don’t forget the necessary accessibility features as you create.
This checklist speaks about content generally no matter the format (website, spreadsheet, social media, etc.). If you would like format-specific guidance, please select your content format below to learn more about which accessibility features apply.
If you prefer to learn through watching tutorial videos, completing learning modules, or attending workshops, please see the resources on our Accessibility Education page.
